"Eva," I called out, walking towards her. The boardroom had mostly emptied now, leaving just the two of us in this space that still crackled with the tension of what had just transpired. The late morning sunlight caught her profile, and for a moment, I was transported back to simpler times before the accusations, before the prison, before I let my hatred blind me to the truth.
"Congratulations on your appointment," I said, trying to keep my voice steady despite the storm of emotions in my chest. "The board made the right decision."
