Chapter 18
"You... you are totally unreasonable!"
Melissa stared at Joseph, her face grim.
Unconsciously, she shifted her body backwards, her beautiful, flustered face held high in defiance.
Those slightly perplexed eyes were locked onto Joseph as if trying to sound a warning.
"So, you understand how to keep quiet now?"
Joseph moved closer again until his face was almost touching hers, which embarrassed Melissa.
"You..."
Melissa was at a loss for words. She thought the man in front of her was totally over the line, but she couldn't do anything about him.
Seeing her wide-open eyes and her speechless state, Joseph felt a strange kind of satisfaction
"Hmm... keep it up, you are doing well."
Joseph teased Melissa, raising an eyebrow as if he was praising a child.
Melissa gave him a scornful glance, she found him so annoying!
Ever since Alvin and Alvina got into the car, their nerves had been on high alert. It was their first time to ride in a stretch limousine since they returned to the country.
The two kids frolicked continually, discussing and guessing about the place they would arrive soon, imagining it was like the Neverland from the fairy tale Peter Pan.
They were having a lot of fun, gesticulating wildly and chatting excitedly. They had forgotten that their mother was still sitting in the back seat with that bad uncle.
Melissa, however, was still on edge, worrying about what this group of people might do to them.
She was nearly dying of worry! Yet her two darlings were so cheerful, staging a lively play of fairies versus Captain Hook.
"Hey, where exactly are you taking us?"
Finally, Melissa couldn't help asking directly.
Seeing Joseph about to move closer again, she backed away quickly, her hair pressed against the car window.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
A hint of panic swirled in her eyes.
He found this little woman rather amusing. A hint of a smile appeared on Joseph's frosty face
"What are you nervous about? Do you think I'm going to kiss you?"
Joseph tugged at the corner of his jacket casually and leaned back
"I'm simply pulling on my jacket corner."
Having said that, he slowly closed his eyes, comfortably taking a rest.
Is this guy pretending to sleep?
Feeling helpless, Melissa gingerly approached and asked softly
"You never answered my question. Where are you taking us?"
Melissa felt incredibly uneasy!
Could he be planning to imprison her and her two kids, like some college students sold off to remote villages, never to return?
Noticing the fear in this little woman, Joseph slowly opened his eyes. His voice was a bit cold
"The Clarkson Mansion, that's my grandparents' old house. Now the mansion is occupied by my grandmother alone. While she has the company of servants, she still feels lonely. With the arrival of two children, they could make her happy, and you could also earn some money. That five million is your reward."
With a moderate tone, Joseph explained leisurely. The sunlight showered on his side profile, casting a warm aura that mingled with an air of pride. His thin lips curled slightly, conveying an unspeakable aloofness.
Whenever this guy spoke, he seemed imposing, despite his attractively handsome face. Melissa glared at him once more
"Hey, I never agreed to do you this favor! And just so you know, I don't need your money."
Melissa spoke glaring at him scornfully.
