Chapter 54
"Mmm...Peter, thank you."
Melissa hangs up the phone, feeling like a weight has been lifted from her heart.
Now, it’s time for Melissa to resolve the other half of the problem, so she makes a call to Nancy.
"Hey, Nancy, don't you think you’ve gone too far with Amy? She has never betrayed you."
"Oh, who are you so fiercely defending? Amy not betraying me? Did she not conspire with you to record a video of me? Isn't that considered betrayal?" Nancy replied, her voice melodramatic and ostentatious.
"If you want to seek revenge, come at me! You know very well that Amy is helping me because of our years of friendship. Even if it was not Amy who recorded the video, it would have been someone else. This has nothing to do with Amy; you shouldn't take your anger out on her!"
"I can’t control that. Who asked her to be friends with you?"
Nancy coldly snorted, ridiculing
"Melissa, whoever is friends with you is undoubtedly bad luck."
"You were once my friend too. If they are unlucky, you are also to blame."
Melissa responded vehemently, needing to stand firm with Nancy in order to protect Amy.
"I can promise you that the video will be deleted, but you have to promise me that you will stop disturbing Amy's life. If it happens again, we will call the police!"
"Fine, then delete the video now and publicly apologize online, stating that the video was fabricated. Then I promise not to disturb Amy." Nancy gritted her teeth as she spoke, knowing that she has the power and resources now.
"Alright, I agree. You had better keep your word." Melissa spoke calmly. The video didn't matter to her anymore; many people had already seen the clip of Mrs. Humphrey, the wife of the president of the Humphrey Corporation, physically abusing others. Who would care about the authenticity? This situation would surely have a negative impact on Nancy.
She can just delete it for now. It wasn't the only approach Melissa had to bring her down.
"Of course, I, Nancy, am a woman of my word." Nancy hung up the phone with a victorious smile. As expected, in less than three minutes, the video source was gone. Someone had left a comment below the video, saying the video was fake and apologizing to those involved.
After Melissa had finished on her phone, she went to a nearby supermarket and bought two bottles of milk tea. Paying for them, she left and headed for the apartment where Amy lived.
"Amy, I bought some milk tea. Have some first, then we can tidy up together."
Melissa said as she entered. Amy was already tidying up.
"Thank you, Melissa."
Amy took the milk tea and managed a slight smile, though her heart was in turmoil at the sight of the messy room.
Amy unscrewed the cap and took several long gulps, feeling a sense of panic setting in. Her hand holding the bottle was trembling.
"Melissa, I think Nancy took her revenge today, and she will not just let it go. I'm afraid she will come after you sooner or later."
"I'm not scared of that. Let her come, I'll deal with her accordingly. How much trouble can she cause? I've already lost everything, what can she do to me?"
Melissa seemed utterly unconcerned.
The most painful times in her life had already passed. Now, she had her two dearest ones, so what else was there to frighten her?
"Don't be too careless, Melissa. If I had known what kind of person Nancy was, I would never have become friends with her during school."
Amy said indignantly. She couldn't help but recall the times when they were still in school. Only when Nancy needed help would she approach Amy.
When she didn't need help, she was always hanging out with the pretty cheerleaders, flirting with boys.
"Well, as they say, time reveals one's true character. Melissa, you're always my best friend."
Melissa put down her milk tea and started tidying up. She fetched a large plastic bag put in the living room, throwing those broken porcelain pieces and glass bottles into the garbage bag.
"Melissa, don't pick them up with your hands. The glass can easily cut you."
Seeing this, Amy immediately warned. She rushed to the kitchen door, grabbed a broom and dustpan to clean up the scraps on the floor.
"Amy, let me do the sweeping. You take a rest."
As Melissa Melissa was about to take the broom from Amy. Amy smiled, dodging to the side.
"Leave it to me. Don't forget I was the class leader in charge of hygiene. I'm the best at cleaning."
Amy treated Melissa politely. After all, this was her own housework, and she couldn't let Melissa do it.
"Alright then, my class leader."
Melissa stood up and turned to a storage cabinet to start rearranging things.
"I'll tidy up here."
Amy and Melissa spent less than three hours and had thrown all the damaged items into the garbage.
The furniture was neatly arranged and thoroughly cleaned. Looking at the tidy room, they felt relieved.
"Melissa, let's take a short break!"
Amy sat on the sofa, drinking all the milk tea left in the bottle.
"We can't rest yet. We still need to throw this big bag of trash downstairs, so they don't disturb our sight, right?"
Melissa Melissa said, dragging the bag towards the door.
Seeing her so diligent, Amy had no choice but to get up from the sofa and finish this final task.
"Alright, alright, we'll throw out the trash now. Out of sight, out of mind."
Amy hurriedly rushed over and hoisted the other side of the bag.
When the two of them got downstairs, they happened to see Peter's car passing by Amy's apartment.
Melissa quickly stood behind the moving car, waving towards it.Sure enough, Peter in the back seat saw someone waving behind, so he asked the driver to reverse the car back.
Amy was at a loss, thinking that Melissa had just met an acquaintance and was casually saying hello, only to see a man in a silver-gray suit step out of the car.
He looked very gentlemanly, with an extraordinary aura in his bones.
"Melissa, this place isn't easy to find. If you hadn't waved at me just now, the driver would have driven past"
Said Peter, getting out of his car and gesturing to his aide to open the trunk. All the things he bought were in the trunk.
"Peter, why did you come in person? I thought we agreed that your aide would come,"
Melissa said, surprisingly looking at Peter, feeling somewhat sorry.
