Chapter 141: The Wait

I paced the sterile hospital corridor like a caged wolf, my bare feet making soft slapping sounds against the cold linoleum floor. Every muscle in my body was tightened from anxiety, my hands clenched into fists at my sides as I fought the overwhelming urge to burst through those doors and see what was happening to my son.
The silence from Ollie's room was loud which made my heart skip a beat or four.
There were no monitors beeping, no voices calling out instructions, nothing but an eerie quiet that made my skin crawl with dread.
I'd been banished from my own child's bedside, and forced to wait in this empty hallway while Lyn worked some kind of magic that could either save Ollie's life or kill them both in the process.
"Lumina, please," Lynn said softly, reaching out to touch my arm to either offer comfort that I didn't need or to stop me as I made another frantic circuit past the nurses' station.
