"Don’t take it to heart, Cassandra," Gerald chuckled warmly. "Ethan’s just been trying to keep me happy lately, no bad intentions."
"Yeah," Cassandra glanced at the time before leaning in a little and lowering her voice, "Mr. Hawthorne, I was about to head out, but there’s something I wanted to talk to you about—just the two of us. Got a minute now?"
She’d overheard some whispers about the Hawthorne family maybe making an announcement about the successor tonight—she knew she’d come at the right time.
"So soon?" Gerald looked surprised, but seeing how serious she was, he paused and said, "It won’t take too long, right? We can go to my study."
"Won’t take more than a few minutes," Cassandra quickly reassured.
She spotted Ethan still surrounded by officials and entrepreneurs, clearly tied up. Without another glance, she followed Gerald out of the banquet hall.
By the time Ethan realized they were both gone, he cursed under his breath. Damn it! Making up an excuse, he brushed off the guest
