Cassandra shot him a sideways glance, her suspicion almost tangible—like, was he bugging her or something? How else could he hit the nail on the head so perfectly?
“This whole mess didn’t start because of me,” she said coolly. “Even if it involves the Taylors, I’m not lifting a finger to clean up Lillian Doyle’s mess. If anyone’s begging for mercy, it’ll have to be her and the rest pleading with you, not me.”
She wasn’t some pushover puppet, and definitely not some martyr. If she helped once, they’d keep showing up every time something blew up. She had no interest in becoming their designated fixer.
