A crisp ringtone suddenly broke the silence. Ethan pulled his gaze back, grabbed Cassandra's phone and checked the screen: Mr. Blackwood.
His brows tensed, eyes turning cold. That guy again.
He instantly switched the phone to silent mode — didn’t answer, didn't hang up either. No need to alert him and mess things up.
Glancing at his watch, he slipped the phone into his pocket and walked toward the door, ordering his assistant, “Wait here by the door. I’ll come back around nine tonight. Call me if anything comes up.”
“Yes, sir.” The assistant gave a respectful nod.
At the door, Ethan swiped the keycard and programmed a complicated passcode before leaving.
Even with a master key, no one could get in or out without that code — unless they literally broke the door down, or waited 48 hours for the code to expire on its own.
