Hazel felt that all the mental resilience she'd built up over the years was completely useless when facing Frederick. One look from him, and an inexplicable unease crept into her heart.
Still, she held her composure. Her expression stayed unreadable as she replied calmly, “No, it was sent by my brother. I’m not sure what’s inside. I was just about to go up and open it.”
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught a flicker of something odd—Lester and Philip’s faces had darkened, their expressions tinged with barely concealed indignation, as if someone had stolen something precious from them.
For a moment, Hazel was puzzled. What’s going on with them?
Lester recovered first, his tone gentle.
“Hazel, why don’t you go see what your brother sent you?”
Then he added lightly, “Another one of your brothers is arriving soon—he should be landing any minute now. I’ll head out to pick him up.”
Philip stood as well, his gaze lingering.
“If you’re not busy, why don’t you come with us to pick up Mateo?
