Chapter 208
James Carter froze for a second, stunned by what Sarah Knight just said. It completely caught him off guard—he hadn’t expected that her feelings for Alexander Barron ran so deep.
But wasn’t he the one she loved first?
Only now did James finally get it—he had lost something priceless, and it was too late to fix it.
Not that he had much time left to process it.
“Time’s up. Say goodbye.”
Sarah didn’t respond.
Her fingers twitched as she readied the silver needle in her hand. As slim as the odds were—barely a glimmer of hope—she still clung to the idea of getting out of this alive, just to see Alexander one more time.
James kept walking toward her, each step deliberate. Sarah backed away, equally slow.
In front of her, James approached with that twisted, manic face, gripping his scythe tightly. Behind her, only the endless drop of the cliff.
If she had to choose, she’d rather fight him head-on than fall.
She crouched down slowly, groping around until her hand wrapped around a sturdy stick.
