Chapter 42
In that moment, little Sabrina truly felt what it meant to fear death-just like now, being thrown around by the waves.
Back then, she'd barely managed to crawl out of the water, shivering and crying, only to catch her stepmother and half-sister whispering in a corner.
Her sister had just ripped her second-place award to shreds. "I don't want second! I want first place!"
Their mother quickly tried to calm her down. "Don't cry, sweetheart. In my heart, you're the only daughter that matters. You're always number one to me. I swear I'll get Sabrina out of the picture. Everything good in this world will be yours-including the Evans family fortune."
"Mom, when will she be gone? I don't want her stealing Dad's love!"
"Don't worry, honey. I won't let that little brat live long enough to be a problem. She's not going to stand in your way."
Hiding in the shadows, Sabrina was frozen, hugging her thin arms to her chest. The cold and fear were so overwhelming it felt like her tiny heart would crack
