Curtis shot Noah a meaningful glance with his dark, deep eyes. Then, he gestured for the officer outside to wait for a moment before closing the door behind them.
“Curtis, why’re you back again?” Noah asked, his tone casual.
“You’ll have to hang in there a bit longer. I’ll come pick you up tonight,” Curtis replied.
Noah shrugged like it was nothing. “No biggie. I don’t mind staying here for a bit, but tell me straight—Matthew, is he really dead?”
“He’s dead,” Curtis said firmly. He’d confirmed it himself. “One fatal stab. The person who did it is definitely trained.”
Noah narrowed his eyes slightly. “Trained? If they’re that skilled, either they’ve been at this for a long time or they’re one of those international mercenaries.”
“Could be either,” Curtis said as he glanced at his watch. His voice carried a tone of subtle apology only he would notice. “Eight hours. I’ll be back for you in eight hours.”
