Celeste raised her chin slightly, her eyes locked onto the man in front of her, sharp and unwavering.
The Shaw family might look all picture-perfect on the surface-loving parents, close brothers-but underneath, it was a mess of lies and power plays. And Liam? Definitely not the harmless pushover he pretended to be.
After a beat, a scoff escaped from the gazebo.
Liam casually dropped his hand from Celeste's shoulder and flopped down on the bench. "How come I never noticed before how sharp you are? Just one stint in jail and you've turned into a totally different person."
Celeste didn't even blink. "Nearly died once. If I didn't wise up then, what do you think I came back for? To be some puppet again?"
Her voice was firm, her expression calm. So straightforward that Liam couldn't find a crack in her story.
He furrowed his brow, about to ask more, but got interrupted
