Ava Quarles had both hands on the steering wheel, but she froze for a second when she heard that, and only after a beat did she deny it.
"I didn’t tell anyone," she said, her voice tight.
Celeste Harper glanced sideways at her, hesitating for a second, brows furrowed like she was about to say something but held back.
She had always trusted Ava. If it weren’t for what she knew now, she wouldn’t have thought twice before asking her a question like that.
When they arrived at the hospital, a doctor came to take Celeste for her tests.
"It'll take around half an hour. We can get the results tomorrow morning. If everything goes as expected, the procedure can be scheduled in the next couple of days. With this sort of surgery, earlier is usually better."
