Ethan froze for a split second, a flicker of doubt flashing between his brows, but it vanished just as quickly.
"No need. Just stay down and worry about yourself."
Almost as soon as he finished speaking, another bullet whizzed by, grazing his ear, leaving a thin line of blood behind.
Celeste didn't dare to move, her voice low and tense.
"Who the hell are these people?"
"Could be anyone," Ethan replied calmly, scanning the surroundings before locking eyes on the soldier slumped in the front passenger seat. "Didn't you say you wanted to help?"
"Yeah." Celeste snapped back to reality. "Tell me what to do."
"Get me that gun."
The assault rifle was strapped over the fallen soldier's shoulder, who was now clearly bleeding out, likely beyond saving.
Celeste took in a sharp breath.
"Scared?" Ethan asked, his tone unreadable.
Honestly, being scared made sense-especially for someone like Celeste.
