An old maid walked in and immediately frowned when she saw Nora Murray's hair still a mess. She started nagging, giving Celeste Harper an earful without holding back.
Having stayed in Yland for a while, Celeste had picked up some of the basic language. She could roughly tell the woman was blaming her for being slow and clumsy.
She didn’t try to explain. The reason she’d dragged her feet was to buy Nora some time—maybe the pills would wear off a little if given a few more minutes.
But clearly, she’d been too hopeful.
By the time the old maid finished fixing up Nora’s hair, she was in rough shape. The girl could barely keep her eyes open.
“All right, all set! Time to go! Bring the bride out!” a servant called cheerfully.
Several maids surrounded Nora and helped her toward the door.
Celeste glanced at the box on the table and called out anxiously, “Wait a sec!”
She spoke in Mandarin, which the staff didn’t really understand, but her tone made them pause.
She hurried over, clutching the sm
