Veronica Wren hit the ground hard, the uneven cobblestones jabbing painfully into her back. Martin Palmer threw himself over her, shielding her with his body. Even his voice trembled with pain. “Roni…”
“Martin—!”
She snapped back to reality, her face going ghost-white. "What happened to you? Are you—?”
Her hand came away slick with something warm and sticky from his back.
“Martin!” she cried out.
Dylan Han stood frozen, gun in hand, trembling like a leaf. It was his first time pulling the trigger. He hadn't actually meant to shoot—Palmer had jumped out of nowhere, and in a panic, Dylan’s finger slipped on the trigger.
