The three men froze for a second. Two of them glanced up at Evander Sinclair, their eyes dodging his as they mumbled something in a language he couldn’t place.
Evander scratched the back of his head, a bit confused. “What are they saying? You got grabbed to do hard labor or what?”
A woman among the hostages quickly chimed in, “They’re locals. They bring us food every day. I don’t think they have any idea what’s really going on here.”
Evander gave a slight nod, seeming to take it in, but his gaze never left the man huddled in the far corner.
That guy hadn’t said a single word. His frame was lean, too lean, and the way he hugged his knees made him look even smaller. His hands were disturbingly pale—so well-kept they made the women here look rough by comparison.
Evander’s guard shot up. His eyes narrowed. “You. Come here.”
