Vincent’s face darkened, his tone firm, “No, it has to be her.”
Jasmine smirked, dragging the last syllable of her question intentionally, “When you say ‘has to be her,’ do you mean me needing her, or you yourself needing her?”
Her teasing “has to be her” echoed throughout the room.
“Brother, remember what Mom said before she passed? She said the scariest thing in life is not knowing your own heart—just muddling through, only to realize things too late when there’s no turning back.”
With confidence lacing her voice, Jasmine tossed aside some empty sunflower seed shells. “I’m heading off now. Don’t forget to show up on time for the Maple Festival tomorrow.”
