Everett pinched the cigarette between his long fingers, walked to the dining table, and stubbed out the remaining third in the ashtray.
He took his seat at the head of the table, lifting his gaze to meet mine.
“Miss Taylor, please don’t be formal. Sit down.”
His cold, distant tone, tempered by his deep voice, sounded all the more melodious and pleasing.
I lifted a hand to tuck a stray strand of hair behind my ear, then nodded coyly, replying in a soft, sweet voice, “Thank you, Mr. Robinson.”
Davis stepped forward and pulled out the chair opposite Everett. “Miss Taylor, please.”
I thanked him and walked over to take my seat.
“Bring Miss Taylor the menu,” Everett ordered indifferently.
The waitress handed it to me.
I hastily declined. “Mr. Robinson, you can decide. I’m not picky.”
“Miss Taylor, you are a lady—you should be served first.” Everett remarked calmly, lifting a stemmed glass filled with plain water.
