Darius’s POV
Caleb belched, the scent of alcohol and frustration rolling off him in waves that made my wolf bristle.
I frowned and shifted away, my Alpha instincts repulsed by the display of weakness. Even friendship had its limits, and watching the heir to the Reyes pack wallowing in self-pity pushed mine.
"Come on." Caleb reached for another bottle of wine, his movements sloppy. "Let me drown my sorrows."
He took a swig, his cheeks flushed crimson with alcohol and wounded pride. "My old man grounded me. Can you believe it?" He jabbed a finger at his chest. "I, an adult, got grounded by my dear old dad just because I made a mistake."
"Your mistake cost your dad's company twenty million dollars," I pointed out, keeping my voice level. The proof for Reyes Enterprise's tax evasion had been solid—Dorothy's work, though Caleb still refused to acknowledge the truth of it. Eugene Reyes had to pay the fine to avoid jail time.
