Chapter 9
I lifted my head with difficulty.
Cyril and Cedric were standing high up on a rock platform, not coming down, as if the stench down here was too foul for them.
Cedric was wiping his hands, the hemp rope tossed carelessly at his feet.
"You're pretty lucky to be alive still," Cedric sneered. "But now that you're awake, stay down there and reflect on yourself properly."
Cyril didn't smile. He stood there with a calm gaze."That bone whistle should have fallen here, too. Search through that pile of corpses, and you might find it."
With that, he turned and walked away. Cedric whistled and followed after him.
Their figures quickly disappeared into the darkness, leaving me behind on my own.
I moved my fingers around, trying to stand up, but my joints had dislocated from the earlier torment.
There was no way I could walk, so I crawled.
Using my elbows to push myself forward, I moved slowly through the pile of corpses, searching for the small bone whistle.
"Grandma…" I whispered.
