Chapter 552
Elijah sat on the floor of the storage room on the third floor. His gaze landed on a box filled with certificates, each perfectly preserved.
Since he had gotten them, he had placed each of them in the box. With no family around, there was no one to care about his achievements. As a child, he kept these certificates to tell himself that if he ever found his parents, he could show them he had done well.
But at 38, his life had only grown more disappointing. It was a cruel irony compared to his youth.
The phone rang abruptly in the middle of the night, startling him from his thoughts.
Elijah looked at the incoming call, momentarily stunned. He quickly answered, "What's wrong, Sabrina?"
"Nothing. My leg is broken," Sabrina said evenly.
"What?" Elijah asked.
"I went to your elementary school to ask about you. Your principal is a real piece of work. He sent so many people after me. Even the car flipped," Sabrina said.
