Clara Walton was still chatting with Emma Sterling.
Most of the time, Emma did the talking while Clara just responded with a polite “mm” here and there. The vibe wasn’t bad at all.
But soon, the topic shifted to the wedding—what kind of plans Clara had, and how she wanted to arrange things after the baby was born.
That was when Clara started low-key panicking. She honestly had no clue how to deal with those questions.
Right on cue, Nathaniel Griffith came back.
Clara's eyes lit up when she saw him, like she’d just been thrown a lifeline.
Nathaniel walked in calmly.
“Mom, let’s not talk about this stuff right now,” he said, cutting off Emma mid-sentence.
Emma frowned. “How can you not talk about it? The baby’s due soon. You can’t just keep pushing this off.”
“I'll be based in River City anyway. My job’s here,” Nathaniel replied coolly.
Emma knew her son well. Once he made up his mind, he rarely changed it.
Eventually, meeting Arthur Sterling's eyes, she gave up pushing it further.
