Clara gave a faint, sarcastic laugh. “I wouldn’t dare.”
Her tone was pure brush-off.
Ethan didn’t seem interested in arguing either. He reached out and turned Clara to face him.
Their eyes locked mid-air.
“Is it really that big of a deal? Enough for you to give me the cold shoulder over it?” Ethan’s deep gaze settled on her.
Clara didn’t avoid his stare.
“You want to go back to work?” Ethan asked.
This time, his tone was actually calm, like he was genuinely trying to talk it out.
Clara could tell, so she gave a quiet “Mhm,” but her voice was still kind of distant.
“Give me a reason,” Ethan said, easing back a little.
“If you’re worried that after a divorce, I won’t pay alimony or something, then no need.” Ethan spelled it out.
His eyes were serious when he looked at her again.
“You gave me a child. No matter what happens, I’d never be heartless enough to let you struggle.
