Chapter 579
"I have other relatives?" Mayra froze for a few moments before looking at Anderon. "Andy, didn't you say that you took me to the orphanage back then because no one was willing to adopt me?"
Anderson spotted the hint of distrust and doubt in her eyes.
"Do you not trust me, Mayra?"
She immediately denied it and said, "No. I'm just curious as to why they would come to me after all this time."
"You'll find out once you meet them," he said.
Mayra didn't know what Anderson was planning, but he was right that she should meet these people. The thought that she had living relatives overwhelmed her, and her heart was racing.
At this moment, she could only identify this feeling as excitement.
She had always seen Anderson as her family, but they were not biologically related.
There wasn't any traffic on their way back to Belchester City, and they soon arrived at the Barlow estate.
Anderson got out of the car and glanced at Mayra. "Nervous?"
She looked up and met his eyes. "A little bit."
"You don't have to meet them if you don't want to," he said.
Mayra pursed her lips. After a moment of hesitation, she said, "I want to meet them."
Anderson reached out to grab her hand, ravishing the soft sensation of her skin. She lowered her gaze at their hands, feeling slightly taken aback.
"Don't worry, I'll be here for you," Anderson said.
She nodded but felt completely numb.
…
Meanwhile, in the Barlow estate, the maid was serving the four guests juice.
One of the men was dressed modestly and seemed to be in his 40s. He was clearly running out of patience and asked, "When are they coming here?"
"Yeah, we have other things to do."
"We expect more money for this delay."
"Please wait for a while longer. Mr. Barlow will be back soon," the maid said.
Another maid spotted a figure outside the door. "Welcome back, Mr. Barlow."
Everyone looked over at the door.
A woman in her 50s clapped her hands in excitement. "They look so alike! We must be right. You're Gwyneth's daughter. You have her eyes. And your nose and lips are the exact replicas of Albert's!"
"You… I remember you…" Another man, who would be referred to as Mayra's uncle, said to Anderson, "You're the kid Albert rescued. We all shared a meal over a decade ago. You've both grown up."
"Mayra, come over and let me take a good look at you. Oh my goodness, you're just as beautiful as your mother when she was young."
Anderson lowered his gaze at Mayra. Without exchanging a single word, he saw through her thoughts and let go of her hand.
Mayra gingerly took a step toward them, while Anderson took off his jacket.
The maid took the jacket and hung it on the rack nearby.
Mayra didn't continue advancing and asked, "How… did you guys find me?"
