Chapter 581

"You may not have money, but he does. He lived for free at our house back then for years. We paid his medical fee as well. Now that we are in need of money, he has to pay us double or we aren't leaving." Once one of them started trouble, and another summoned the courage to stand up as well. "Yeah! We aren't leaving." "In the worst-case scenario, you're going to come home with us. Given your age, you shouldn't be studying. You should be married off. Girls your age should've married a long time ago." Mayra remained quiet while observing their crazed looks and listening to their piercing words. She grabbed her phone and called the police. "What are you doing? How dare you call the police?" The woman hurried over and slapped the phone out of Mayra's hand. The call was interrupted before it was connected. "Your dad left you under our care before he passed away, and we have your custody. If you can't pay us, you'll be coming home with us." "Let me go!" Mayra's hand was grabbed, but the woman was too strong for her to shake off. The maid realized that the situation was escalating and hurried over. "If you all dare to get violent here, you'll break something that you can't afford to compensate for." "This is our kid. This is none of your business. Go away." These people worked hard labor most of the time and were all extremely strong. The woman shoved the maid who came to protect Mayra, and the maid backed away a few steps. Shane appeared out of nowhere and supported the maid by the back to prevent her from falling. Shortly after, Anderson came down the stairs. Shane held a suitcase in hand and set it down on the coffee table. "There's 70 grand in cash here. This is the last and only compromise Mr. Barlow will make. You can take this and divide the money among yourselves. "However, we expect you to stay away from Belchester City after you take the money, or Mr. Barlow will reserve the right to take the money back." "No!" Mayra darted up and blocked the group before turning to look at Anderson. "You have no reason to pay them." Anderson walked down the stairs calmly. "Do you have any other option, Mayra? Would you prefer to live with them instead?" That was true. She had no other options because she had nothing. Without Anderson, she was already struggling to make ends meet. With such relatives coming after her, she would find her custody landing on one of these people even if she filed a lawsuit. She was not an adult yet, and she would just lose without Anderson's help. Her heart sank with helplessness. Even though she managed to escape the Barlow mansion, it seemed as though she could never manage to escape Anderson's control. Someone pushed her aside, and one of the men hurriedly opened the suitcase to find it filled with money. These relatives all came for money, and since they achieved their goal, they all left. Mayra watched as they left happily with the money and glanced at Anderson. "If you compromise and pay them this time, they might come again. You know that I can't afford to pay you back." Anderson waved his hand, and the maids in the living room left. Shortly after, silence returned to the room, and what happened earlier felt like a dream. "I don't care about that money." Mayra watched as he approached her with a cunning look in his eyes. Her heart sank because she recognized that look on him. He would only look at her that way if he had ulterior motives or when he was trying to negotiate terms with her. She felt as though someone was gripping her heart, and the pain made it hard to breathe. She looked at him calmly, attempting to see through him. "As soon as you said that, I guessed it… You didn't give them the money for no reason, did you?" Anderson was about to touch her when his arm froze mid-air. She backed away and maintained a distance between them.
