Chapter 585

"Brandon, apart from doing this for you, I truly want to help this child. Anderson can't accept her, and she is just a 17-year-old. She's all alone, and based on what I've found, she was chased out of the Barlow family. It's not that she didn't want to stay but that the Barlow family wouldn't let her stay." Camilla grabbed Brandon's hand gingerly. "Brandon, I know that you care about her. Since you like her, I'm willing to accept her for your sake. As long as she's willing to join this family, I'll treat her like my own daughter. Follow me…" She pulled him into the room next to his. "Look, I prepared all these for her. I made the clothes on the bed and spent three nights on that scarf. A red one and a black one for the two of you." The room appeared as though it was made for a princess. There were clothes that Camilla carefully picked out for all seasons, filling the closet. Apart from those, there were also different handbags, all from the latest collection. It was apparent that Camilla was excited about Mayra's arrival. Camilla admitted that she was being selfish, but she also liked Mayra from the bottom of her heart. She had always wanted a daughter, but the country's law regarding children only changed after she gave birth to Brandon, and she could no longer have another child by then. Adopting Mayra was just a way to fulfill her wish. "What's the point of saying all that when she won't come here?" "She will. I believe that she will." He looked at her with bloodshot eyes. "Why are you so sure? What methods are you planning on using to force her into coming here?" Brandon ruined all the gifts Camilla had prepared. "You all just see her as a tool that you can use." The scarf Camilla made was torn as well. "If you keep doing this and I find out about it, I'll never come home again." He turned and kicked at the dressing table before he left. Everything Camilla had prepared, including the skincare products, fell, shattering on the ground. "Brandon, where are you going?" Mayra was supposed to return to school in the afternoon, but she locked herself in her room ever since Brandon sent her home. She hadn't eaten anything. Even as her stomach began to hurt, she simply curled up in a corner, trying to isolate herself from the world. A long time later, she found clarity and got used to the feeling of being abandoned at any moment. She could live well even without Anderson. She made a casual meal and had a few bites. At 11:30 pm, she had run out of tears. The lights inside the room were left on while she worked on her homework. Shortly after, a car drove into the residential area, and a man came out of it. He headed into the elevator. Before Mayra noticed it, the door was opened and a figure entered. Anderson observed his surroundings as he stepped into the dark living room, then turned to look at the opened door to one of the rooms. The lights were on, and Mayra was working on her homework quietly. She didn't realize that there was someone else inside the apartment until she heard footsteps approaching. She swiftly turned around and stood up. When she saw him, her panic subsided, and she pretended like nothing happened. She turned her attention back to her homework. Anderson's dark gaze swept through the small room. When he looked at the closet, he saw the clothes that belonged to Mayra and another male, which caused his gaze to dim. After taking a few glances, he looked away and dragged a chair over to sit next to her. "Have you been crying?" he asked. "You can tell me if you don't want to go to the Sawyer residence." Mayra was working on an equation, and her motion slowed as she wrote. "I'll go to the Sawyer residence, and after that, we owe each other nothing."
