Chapter 587
Mayra's words weren't heard because Anderson had already left.
When he returned to the Barlow mansion, he noticed that the lights were on in the living room and Helen was coming downstairs with cutlery. "Welcome back, Mr. Barlow."
Anderson hummed in response and went up the stairs.
"Mr. Barlow, Ms. Nancy wishes to see you and has been waiting in her room. Are you going to see her?" Helen said.
"Tomorrow, maybe," he said emotionlessly.
"Alright. Will Ms. Sadler be coming back? Should I wash the clothes upstairs? She won't be able to wear them if too much dust gathers on them."
Anderson paused for a while before saying, "Leave them."
…
Shortly after, Mayra and Brandon's relationship became the talk of Belchester High School. No one dared to speak of it in front of the two of them, but all the gossip was heard by Mayra regardless.
No matter how harsh their words were, she could only remain quiet and act like she didn't know anything.
Since the Sawyer family wished to adopt her, it was a rather simple procedure. She merely needed to provide a few documents and the procedures concluded in just a few days.
It was a trade—seventy grand that Anderson didn't care much about was enough to dictate her life.
On the day of the adoption, Gregory came home to see her out of respect for Anderson.
She received a gift of cash from him, and Gregory left shortly after.
Though she was adopted by the Sawyer family, she didn't live with them and continued to stay in Gordon's apartment instead.
Camilla tried talking her out of it many times, and Brandon even attempted to kidnap her a few times. However, he wouldn't dare to do anything as soon as she gave him a cold look.
On the last day of each weekend, Mayra would return to the Sawyer residence to dine.
Brandon had never liked going home, but ever since she was adopted, he started following her everywhere.
He even followed her to school.
Knowing that they were coming home, Camilla cooked numerous dishes and different types of dessert enthusiastically.
Camilla would carefully pick out all the clothes before having them delivered to Mayra, including socks.
Mayra looked at the dishes on the table.
"It's rare for both you and Brandon to come home for dinner. Try the food. I've looked into your background, and I know that you can't get used to calling me your mom so soon. It's okay. We have plenty of time together. I'll wait for you to accept me."
"I don't know what you like, so I sent someone to the Barlow mansion to ask what dishes you prefer. Madam Helen already gave me all the recipes. Try this honey-glazed ham and see if it tastes like the one you had in the Barlow mansion."
Brandon was lying on the couch and playing games in the most unsightly position. The sounds from his game could be heard everywhere in the living room as he had turned the volume up.
"It's fine. I can eat anything," Mayra said.
"Brandon has always been a picky eater. To ensure that he eats properly, I learned to cook. He soon fell in love with my cooking and started asking me to cook every single day. He won't eat things that others cook."
Mayra had a taste of the honey-glazed ham. "It tastes great."
"Alright, Brandon. Come over for dinner," Camilla said, but Brandon didn't respond.
