Aldric's POV
I sat in my study, replaying the interview over and over. On the screen, Claire stood with her arm linked through Klein's, answering the host's questions with a gentle smile.
That golden hair was obviously from that foolish human. Seraphina's black hair had been much more elegant. But everything else was identical to Seraphina. Those bright round eyes, that straight nose, and the way she tilted her head when listening. Gentle but with a hint of stubbornness.
Twenty-five years, and I thought I'd never see that face again.
"Aldric, you've been watching this all night," my wolf Ragnar growled in my mind. "Stop torturing yourself. She isn't Seraphina."
I laughed bitterly. "Like mother, like daughter, right?"
I remembered that night in the secret chamber when I first saw Claire. When she turned to look at me, I almost believed Seraphina had come back from the dead. The shock made me freeze, letting her escape.
I should have killed her then.
