I immediately looked down and gasped in shock. Back inside the escape room, I hadn't noticed just how close I was to Eric. I was practically glued to his chest, my hands clutching onto him tightly. From any angle, this posture looked undeniably intimate.
I sprang back in a hurry, suddenly unable to meet his gaze.
Zeke crossed his arms in disappointment. "Come on, Jane. How are you this scared? You're worse than a kid like me, and I'm not even ten yet!"
His words instantly shattered the awkward tension between Eric and me.
I looked at him helplessly and feigned distress. "I had no idea I was such a coward either! If I had known how much of a scaredy-cat I was, I never would've agreed to this."
Hearing this, Zeke shook his head in exasperation. "But it's all fake!"
I blinked in surprise. "Wait, at your age, shouldn't you still believe these things are real? Did the world lie to me? Because when I was your age, I even thought the stuffed bear on my bed had a soul!"
