Once I figured it out, I didn’t say anything and just walked up to knock on the car window.
The driver didn’t roll it down. Instead, he unlocked the door on the other side.
I walked around the front of the car and got in. Just as I shut the door and turned to look at the driver, I realized something was off. Even with the hat and sunglasses, I recognized him right away.
"It's you?" I stared at Simon Gray. He gave off this cold, unsettling vibe that I hadn’t noticed before. Maybe losing his job and becoming a fugitive had really messed him up.
“Thanks to you, I can't survive in City H anymore. So now I’ve got no choice but to leave with you and your boy.” His voice was laced with bitterness, his eyes flashing with anger like a silent threat, warning me he was in control—and I wasn’t going anywhere.
He sounded like he had no other choice, but it felt more like a threat. Just like I’d suspected, Marilyn Gray wasn’t going to let us leave City H that easily. She probably sent Simon to keep
