I was still stuck in the crappy mood Lena Carter put me in, so I didn’t really catch what he said. I just asked lazily, “Who?”
“Vincent Allen.” The moment Jason Smith dropped that name, I felt a chill run down my spine.
I shot him a sharp look. He was gazing at me with this smug, knowing smile, like he was in on some joke I didn’t know. “He was blocked at the door earlier. I told the staff to let him in. Aren’t you gonna thank me?”
I took a slow bite of the cake to calm myself, then blinked at him innocently, all wide-eyed. “Who’s that? Why would I be thanking you on his behalf?”

He actually turned like he was leaving, and I quickly grabbed his wrist. “Oh, right! He's Lena’s friend. Probably came looking for her or something. Now that he’s in, might be a little awkward to force him out, yeah?”
