I slapped my thigh and rushed out of the private room, digging through the trash cans in the hallway, but came up empty.
Feeling defeated, I stood up and got ready to head back to the room and use the landline to call the front desk. That’s when I saw Henry Smith coming back, dressed in clean clothes.
He looked sharp as ever—tall and lean, wearing a tailored black suit over a matching shirt, no tie. In one hand was a paper bag, in the other his phone, his focused expression while talking looked ridiculously attractive.
He handed me the bag, and I instantly caught on—it was a call reminding him of a major meeting in the afternoon, something to do with the second phase of Harmony’s business park.
So, he wasn’t just here in City S to keep Vera Clark company. He had work too.
I stared at the clothes in the bag and blurted out, “When are you going back to City H?”
He ended the call calmly, voice low. “The day after tomorrow.”
