The black Bentley rolled to a slow stop in front of the old house where Marilyn had once lived.
Frowning, Nancy wondered why he brought her here.
Sebastian stepped out first, walked around, and opened her door. She followed him inside.
The living room was hushed, the faint scene of wax and smoke hanging in the air. At the center stood a polished plaque engraved with the name "Marilyn Duncan."
Sebastian lit two slender taper candles, handing one to Nancy while keeping the other for himself.
He lowered his head, holding the flame in quiet reverence.
Nancy accepted hers without a word and placed the candle gently into its holder, following his lead.
A faint haze of candle smoke lingered in the air as his voice sounded, deep and steady, carrying the weight of ceremony.
