Howard suddenly hit the mute button while the TV in the hospital ward was showing the midday bulletin. He looked at me with a troubled, hesitant expression while holding his phone, the glow of the screen illuminating his anxious features.
"What's the matter?" I asked, a sudden dread gripping me.

I felt a tremor in my hands. I was just an average woman; I never believed I had the capacity to commit murder. I knew that the traffic camera captured everything, but the reality of facing public judgment was terrifying, especially since my intent was undeniably to put an end to Joseph's life.
