CAMILA'S POV
The note felt crumpled in my hand, as if it had endured a war. My father's handwriting was sloppy, hurried, and almost menacing. I gazed at the scrawls, attempting to decipher the scramble of letters and symbols. It was more than a simple note. It was a map. The message was coded. The message was hidden from my view.
With my gaze returning to the odd code he had left me, I tore a corner of the paper.
I whispered to myself, "This must mean something."
However, the glass fortress that felt so secure suddenly felt cold, and the air was heavy around me. I was aware of the dangers. Everyone told me to leave it alone. "Remain put, Camilia. It’s too dangerous.” Luis had warned me more times than I could count, his voice sharp with fear and something darker something I would rather not face.
I clenched my fists. I wasn't a kid. No longer. I needed to discover the truth: whether he was out there and still alive. I was impatient.
