ALEJANDRO'S pov
I had trouble falling asleep.
With her arm slung across my chest as if I were her anchor, Camila was breathing steadily next to me. However, I felt unsteady. I thought I was sinking.
The picture. She was sleeping. I was standing next to her. That message.
Not every member of your team is yours.
I couldn't get it out of my head. I kept thinking about it.
How did they enter?
Who opened the door for them?
Even worse, what if I was to blame?
As quietly as possible, I slipped out from under the covers. Her hand searched for a moment before she fell back. For a moment, I observed her. She appeared secure. calm. I was aware. Peace like that doesn't last.
I poured a drink downstairs. I wanted something to burn even though I didn't need it. Maybe it would alleviate the guilt that had been weighing heavily on my mind.
