Juliet's doorbell rang the next day. Her heart lurched as she thought it might be Zachary outside her door.
But after glancing out the peephole, Juliet saw that it was just Jesse, Asher's assistant. There was a stiff and practiced smile on Jesse's face as he gazed at the peephole.
Juliet didn't want to open the door for him. She was about to text him to leave when—
"Mrs. Greene, it's me, Jesse." Jesse leaned against the door as if having anticipated Juliet's reaction. He even waved at the peephole in a friendly manner. "Mrs. Greene? My most gracious lady, the most beautiful and most divine of her name—please open the door!"
Juliet was left speechless by Jesse's little display.
Not wanting her neighbors to complain about the spectacle, Juliet opened the door in the end.
Jesse slipped into her apartment and swiftly blocked the door with his shoulder, keeping it open. He then waved in the direction behind him.
