The doorbell echoed through the hall—Emmanuel was here. The maid opened the door, and Benjamin Wakefield, his wife Theresa Wakefield, and their daughter Lilith exchanged knowing smiles and stood up to greet their guest.
Standing at the entrance, Emmanuel looked immaculately sharp in a deep navy velvet suit, holding a bouquet of roses in his hand.
"Emmanuel's here, come on in!" Theresa greeted him warmly.
"Wow, those roses are gorgeous! Lilith, look, he's so thoughtful," she added with a grin.
"Actually, these are for you, Aunt Theresa. I'll get some for Lilith next time," Emmanuel said with a smile.
The investigation from three years ago was finally giving him some leads—soon, truth would surface. For now, he had to keep the Wakefields calm and unaware. Any move too early could cost him the truth.
"For me? Thank you! I love them!" Theresa beamed as she took the roses, then joked with her husband, "Old Benjamin, I can't even remember when you last bought me flowers."
