Mia was completely silenced by Vivienne's sharp retort.
She didn't know what had gotten into her lately. Vivienne had used to be easy to push around, but now, every word from her mouth was like a blade cutting straight to the bone.
Sebastian's gaze lingered on Vivienne, his dark eyes growing slightly more intense with each second. "What really went down?" he asked, his expression indecipherable.
"I didn't push her. She slipped and fell by accident."
"Why did she fall?"
"She wanted to discuss something with me, and I turned her down," Vivienne clarified with poise. "In her haste, she tried to stop me, only to miss a step and fall down the stairs."
Sebastian kept quiet, but his eyes locked onto Vivienne, unblinking. His expression remained unreadable, but the air around him dropped by a few degrees.
It was obvious that he still had his doubts. After all, no one would fall down a flight of stairs without a reason.
