Sylvia was caught off guard, so she faked a cough while her mind scrambled for an excuse.
When she finally figured something out, she pressed a hand against her chest and spoke as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "How could I not feel guilty? Mr. Tyler doesn't know about us. If he finds out that I ride in your car every morning to the subway, he would easily guess that we're living together."
Arnaud's dark gaze lingered on her. "You're just so ashamed of me, huh?"
Seeing his face harden, Sylvia quickly softened her tone and reached for his hand. "That's not what I mean. You're too exceptional. Whenever you're around, I disappear in your shadows, and no one ever notices my effort."
Her words were so convincing that she was even convinced by herself.
