It was dark by the time I awoke to find myself on the floor. The photos of my unborn child were still lying in my lap.
I didn’t remember falling asleep, but the exhaustion from everything I had been through made me realize how much rest I truly needed.
I pulled myself up from the floor, my joints protesting the movement after being curled up in that awkward position for hours.
After stretching, I opened the bedroom door and moved into the living room, which was dimly lit by a small fire. I realized Mary must have come in and brought me dinner at some point without me hearing her.
“Rosalie…”
I jumped, a small scream escaping me as I turned and found Talon sitting on the sofa.
“Talon—” I said, startled. I looked around, expecting to see Ethan, but he wasn’t there. “What are you doing here?”
Slowly, he rose to his feet and switched on a small lamp beside him. “Mary came to me earlier. She said you hadn’t answered her and was worried. I decided to wait for you to wake up.”
