Serena’s words instantly brought a chill to the air inside the car. Jack kept driving, while everyone else turned to stare out the window, each lost in their own thoughts.
To avoid drawing attention, Jack headed toward a public hospital on the outskirts of town. It was a national-level facility despite its out-of-the-way location, fairly new and usually not too crowded—exactly why Oliver chose it after careful thought.
In the OBGYN department, Jack stuck close to Serena the whole time—through the testing and sample processing—making sure nothing went off track.
The results came back quickly. Just as Sophia had predicted: Serena was indeed pregnant.
