Matthew couldn’t stop replaying the image of Serena walking away with Dylan—her turning back, taking off the ring and bracelet with such finality. That cold reality hit harder than any blow, leaving no room for anything else, let alone Chloe.
He knew this wasn’t the time to lose his temper with her, but just watching her act like she had any right to be in Serena’s place made his blood boil.
Chloe walked up quietly, a soft look in her eyes. "Matthew..." she called gently, trying to reach for his hand. The second her fingers brushed his, Matthew jerked his hand back like he’d been shocked. Anyone else touching him was unbearable—unless it was Serena.
He shot her a sideways glare, his voice icy and sharp. "Didn’t I make myself clear?"
"But you’re drenched! Jennifer, grab a towel, now!" Chloe ignored his tone, grabbing a towel herself and gently trying to dry off the rain dripping from him.
