Bianca Quinn dragged herself back into the room, flopping onto the bed like her bones had turned to jelly. She stared blankly at the ceiling, that whole thing with Connor’s mom looping in her head and making her chest ache. She yanked the blanket over her face, shut her eyes, and tried to zone out — just stop thinking for a bit.
Not long after, Connor Allen walked in. He crouched next to the bed, took her hand gently, his voice filled with guilt. “Bianca, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have let that happen.”
Bianca took a deep breath, then flipped the blanket down, forcing a bright smile. “What are you even saying? I’m not upset. Honestly, your mom wasn't exactly wrong — you're not getting any younger. Maybe it’s time you start thinking about the future.”
“Bianca…” Connor's face dropped, the corner of his eyebrows pulled so tight you could probably crack a walnut between them.
She pushed herself up and grinned. “Alright, alright, I won’t say more. It's late, I’m gonna clean up and sleep.”
