Ivy picked up on the awkwardness in the air and quickly forced a smile. “Yeah, it’s been forever, huh? Let’s go check on Ms. Martinez first—we can catch up later.” Then she tugged on Serena’s arm and led her away.
The hospital was a massive public facility, filled to the brim with patients. They came here mainly because it was more affordable.
Betty Martinez’s hospital bed had been pushed into a corner of the corridor—there just weren’t any rooms left inside.
