Reassurance
I could feel my lungs tightening as I fought to catch my breath. My legs shook, muscles screaming as I dashed away from the maniacs. I kept my gaze fixed on my path, ignoring the sexual, derisive jeers echoing behind me.
“Help me!”
“We just want to play!” Their sniggers echoed off the dark road. Surely someone heard us! Was the neighborhood deaf? I had been frantically screaming for help until my voice gave out. I was exhausted, weak, battered—all I wanted was to collapse onto my bed.
I didn’t know where I was going. Every few steps, I stumbled, panicking as I tried to regain my footing, my legs like dead weight. I glanced over my shoulder; they were gaining on me. Looking forward, I tried to trick them by abruptly turning into a narrow alleyway. I hugged the walls, pushing myself forward, desperate to escape their hawking gaze.
“N-No…”
This couldn't be happening! My frantic run slammed to a stop as I was confronted by a towering brick wall, blocking any further escape. I nearly cried
