CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN – FLORIAN’S ASSAULT
They shared a brief, tender kiss before Cassie started the car again. As they drove towards the warehouse, both were acutely aware that they might be heading into a trap.
The warehouse loomed before them, a hulking silhouette against the night sky. Cassie killed the headlights as they approached, relying on the dim moonlight to navigate.
"Oh no," Florian muttered as they got closer. "Look."
Cassie's heart sank as she saw what Florian had spotted. Several black SUVs were parked haphazardly around the warehouse, and she could make out the shapes of armed men patrolling the perimeter.
"It's Karl's men," Florian said grimly. "They must have figured out our backup plan."
Cassie's mind raced, looking for options. "We can't go back," she said. "They'll be watching the roads. And we can't stay here in the open."
Florian nodded, his expression determined. "We go in. The warehouse is big, lots of places to hide. Maybe we can find a way out, or at least hold out until help arrives."
