Linda closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and then opened them again. "George, we are in the middle of a catering crisis. Mildred is convinced we're sitting on buried pirate treasure. Bob is trying to milk a cow in our backyard. And you want to set up a golf course?"
George considered this for a moment. "Yes?"
Linda threw her hands up in exasperation. "Fine. Fine! Set up your golf course. But if you damage one of Mother's petunias, you're on your own."
As Linda stormed back to the kitchen, George turned to Ava with a hopeful look. "So, kiddo, want to be my caddy?"
Ava glanced at Emma, who nodded in understanding. "Sure, Dad. Let's go set up your course."
As they stepped outside, Ava was hit by the realization that the day had barely begun, and yet it already felt like a week had passed. She watched as her father began enthusiastically plotting out his makeshift golf course, oblivious to the disapproving stares from Grandmother Beatrice, who was hovering protectively near her belo
