Ava blinked, trying to process this information. "Okay... and how exactly do you plan to do that?"
"As a trapeze artist, of course!" Emma exclaimed. "I need you to help me practice. We can set up a rope between two trees in the backyard. It'll be just like when we were kids!"
Ava's mind reeled as she tried to juggle her family's competing crises. Her mother was still tearing apart the kitchen in search of her lucky spatula, her father's calls of "Putter! Here, putter, putter!" could be heard from the backyard, Jack was on the verge of tears over his hasty marriage, and now Emma wanted to run away to join the circus.
Just as Ava opened her mouth to respond, the front door burst open. Aunt Mildred marched in, followed by a bedraggled group of family members. They were all covered head to toe in mud, leaves stuck in their hair, but their faces shone with triumph.
"We found it!" Aunt Mildred crowed, holding aloft a rusty metal box. "The long-lost Hart family treasure!"
